About
A Resilient Nature exists to capture moments of human and ecological resilience occurring in an era of societal upheaval and climate crises. I write to better understand human-nature relationships and I write heal mine. Here, I hope to spin a web of the interconnected nature of our survivals, small and large.
About Bela Schultz
My relationship with nature has always been rich but complex – I was fifteen years old the first time I referred to nature as a “spurned lover.” (No further comment.) I’ve known that I want to spend my life fighting climate change for a decade now – yet for years I’ve kept both nature and the reality of climate change at a safe psychological distance. I studied environmental sociology and psychology to better understand the various cognitive and systemic causes that could be causing this intention-action gap, but that theoretical foundation did little to change my dilemma. What did is understanding engagement as a practice. Now, I have moved across the bridge between values and behavior by finding: soil to dig my hands into, a community where I can show up fully, and a creative outlet through which I can express the boundless intersections and connections between nature and the self.
